Thin Client and Visualization Lab
Under MODROBS project of AICTE
Objectives of the Project :
The main objective of undertaking the project was to enhance the functional efficiency in teaching, training, research and innovation vertical, amongst the students and faculty of the Institute. In addition with the introduction of subjects like Artificial Intelligence, Neural Computing, Machine Learning, Data Science, Internet of Things, Cloud and DevOps that are market aligned, the requisition of high end computing environment was an absolute necessity to give the students an environment to solve complex problems and realise potential through designing and developing innovative projects. Most of the development environments need high end computing and processing capacity and capability which the Virtualisation Client Server environment will be able to provide.
Moreover, the software’s on thin client mode will save a lot on licensing, total administration and operating cost, reduced electricity bill and maintenance costs. It will also enable centralised and simplified back up of desktops, laptops, and other client access devices, thus reducing dependency on technical support staff and also an environment of collaborative research.
Future plans for Utilizing the Equipment’s and or Facilities Created :
The project, research and consultancy work by student and faculty is under progress and with effective utilization of the Lab and with inclusion of subjects as IOT and Data Science it is envisaged that this infrastructure will help us run multiple simulations of our applications and products which are under the development phase thus help us benchmark our products and processes. Since we are registered under MHRD and SPPU IIC it will help the Innovation and Incubation Cell and Committee of SIOM to design and develop their products and implement ideas( some have been sent for evaluation to IIM Kolkata) thus instituting the research and entrepreneurial culture within the institution and making students industry ready and notable entrepreneurs in the society. A series of workshops on IOT in conjunction with i3indya technologies and IIT Bombay, and approved lab migration for R programming with IIT Bombay, followed by Machine Learning workshop series by IIT Guwahati will help optimize lab utilisation and ensure creation of skilled student resources.
